Intro: During this unit we learned about plate tectonics and how they have helped the ocean become what it is today. We learned about the different ways the plates move. I learned about divergent plates convergent plates and transform boundaries. I was surprised to hear that volcanoes and earthquakes are both caused by plate tectonics.
Divergent Plate Boundaries - A linear feature that exists between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other. Divergent boundaries within continents initially produce rifts, which eventually become rift valleys.
Convergent Plate Boundaries - A place where two or more lithosphere plates collide. One plate eventually slides beneath the other, in a process known as subduction. The subduction zone can be defined by a plane where many earthquakes occur.
Transform Plate Boundaries - sometimes called a strike-slip boundary, is a fault along a plate boundary where the motion is predominantly horizontal. It ends abruptly where it connects to another plate boundary, either another transform, a spreading ridge, or a subduction zone.
For the main project in this unit we were instructed to make with all the plate boundaries and label the types of boundaries around the world. I think this was a very helpful assignment for me to understand how all the boundaries connect.
Conclusion: Some things I think I could have done better were time management and work ethic. Even though I got the assignment done I don´t think I worked with as much urgency as necessary. I was very close to finishing on time but I ended up finishing up the project at home. I am looking forward to working with my group to do even better on the next project.
