Reading outside the class content is one of the crucial components of an application, specially when applying to European universities. To apply to some majors/courses, such as Law, you need to make sure you have done external reading and when writing about it in your personal statement or discussing these at an interview, you need to show that you can analyse and compare what you have read about (rather than listing it).
