University systems in different parts of the world may have very specific entry requirements, which can vary from country to country. The following general guidelines are a starting point but requirements for specific programs can change and therefore it is essential that students conduct their own research to ensure their IB course selections meet their needs.
Potential IB Requirements for University Admission*
In the UK, Chemistry HL plus Biology HL are typically required.
Attention: Please bear in mind the following:
Language: Some universities will not accept a Language at Ab Initio level.
Science: It is important to find out which science subjects you need to take, and which of these should be at higher level. You should also find out which are the required grades (it is not only about taking the right subjects and levels, but also about having a good academic performance).
Math: It is important to find out the math level they require/recommend, and the required grades.
*The above guidelines are of general nature, this is not a definitive list. Different universities have different entrance requirements, and requirements can change from one year to the next. The most updated sources of information are the prospectuses and websites of the universities themselves. Students should go to the university’s website to get current information.
