We had campus tour on November 8th, 2024. On this opportunity, we explore the Museum of UST and also the environment of UST. We find many things interesting during this tour. We also got an information about UST History that we never knew before.
UST Museum is the oldest school based museum. It was established in 1869. It was initially founded as a repository for scientific collections and antiques used for education, making it a center for learning during the Spanish colonial era. Today, the museum houses a diverse collection of art, cultural artifacts, and natural history specimens that reflect the heritage of the Philippines and the long history of UST as one of Asia's oldest educational institutions.
It contains various types of collection. There are real animal that mummified, document and tools, artifacts, artwork, religion related collection, and others.
UST main building is a historic architectural landmark and the first earthquake-resistant structure in the country. It's established since 1927. Its build with 40 pieces of rock. There are three iconic statue on UST main building, called by "these three".
Because the durability, it's become a camp during colonization era. It's ever become a camp of Japanese during World War II, become interment camp for US during that era.
In the front part of UST, there is an arch with the form of gate. The tradition is entering and exiting the arch. Students on UST will enter when they become a new college students. Meanwhile, the exiting tradition done after they graduated from UST.
