GCSE Mathematics encourages students to:
Develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards, mathematics and to recognise the importance of mathematics in their own lives and to society. This qualification prepares students to make informed decisions about the use of technology, the management of money, further learning opportunities and career choices.
GCSE Mathematics is a required course for all students, but is also one of the most important subjects for students to pass, as 80% of jobs require a passing grade in Mathematics in order to apply. Students who gain good passes (Grade 5 or better) will stand out from their peers in their future careers, whilst those who go on to take A-Level Maths will open up significantly more career opportunities in the future.
A passing grade in Mathematics (either Grade 4 or 5) is required for access to many courses at Sixth Form as well as for most vocational qualifications and apprenticeships.
In order to do A-Level Maths in Sixth form, a grade 7 or better is required at GCSE.
