Leader: We Adore You, O Christ, and we praise You,
All: Because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the world.
Jesus is dead. The Savior of the world's body hung lifeless over the vast collection of people, watching, amazed after seeing the ever living God die. The Roman soldiers decided not to break Jesus' legs because He was already dead, fulfilling Psalm 34:20. Instead Jesus' side was pierced, water and blood gushing out, fulfilling Zechariah 12:10. Finally, Jesus was taken off the Cross and prepared to be laid in the tomb.
How would you feel seeing the body of Christ hanging lifeless, on two wooden beams, as He is being convicted as a criminal?
Let us pray,
Lord, help us to see the humility of your Son, that He made Himself man, and gave Himself over to human hands. Help us to be grateful for His sacrifice on the Cross so that we may be free from sin. Teach us to be like Him.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Amen.
