defining the purpose and end users for the digital outcome (A)
describe relevant implications (A)
Feedback from NZQA
The purpose and end users need to be defined early in the process, so that these can be referred back to later in the work. This will provide the opportunity for students to ensure the design meets the requirements of the purpose and end users at all stages.
Students need to describe the relevant implications and use these to inform the design as it progresses.
From your proposal you will be able to state what you are intending to create, the purpose of the outcome and whom it is intended for. Copy this statement straight from your proposal, it will be your starting point for this topic of work.
You should be able to copy and paste this from your proposal. You should open your design document stating the purpose of your outcome and who your intended end user is.
When we look at what we intend to create there will things that we cannot do, things that we need to think about and rules around what we are allowed to use. We call these implications we need to think about these before we start planning our game or animation. Why? because we want to make a game that will be "fit for purpose", legal, inclusive and not offensive.
When considering the relevant implications for your outcome think about why the implications need to be thought about. You may want to structure your sentence using this style -
Name the implication
Describe the implication - what does it mean?
Explain how you will address the implication - what will you do?
An example that addresses the legal implication of copyright
Copyright is important to consider because I need to be able to use the graphics freely within my game. Graphics created by other designers belong to them, I have no right to use them without consent, using them would be theft. (A)
cultural implications - Disney's-moana-makes-waves-in-nz
She had always been proud of being tāngata moana to the region, descending from Tonga and having ancestry in Samoa and living in Aotearoa.
"I felt OK about how Disney validated [our culture] and put that forward ... I don't think they made me feel stink."

Legal implications -
This short video will explain how copyright and intellectual property works.
If you are placing your animation on YouTube are you aware of the legal implications?
Ethical implications - In your opinion is game such as Grand Theft Auto ethical? Should we create games or animation that glamorise violence? Think about how ethical your game is?
Think about your game or animation, do you think that the story or gameplay is ethically and morally sound. Is it suitable for your end user?
Social implications - What makes something socially acceptable? Are the characters or images used in your outcome stereotypical? Have you created assets that are socially acceptable? What about content and language? How will you ensure that your game or animation is social acceptable.
For example the language used will not be offense, the game background story will not be racist or used to inflame or anger.
health and safety - often in animations we may give advice or advertise a product. We need to ensure that any advice we give is safe and will not cause harm. The same can be said for gaming, the messages we give in our game should not encourage any hard. We have all recently heard about momo or the Blue Whale Challenge both apps that were designed to encourage self harm.

accessibility - Ho will ensure that your game or animation is accessible for your intended users. Have you considered those people who have a disability? If you are using YouTube to publish your video, how does this improve accessibility to your outcome? If you are creating a computer game, have you thought about who will be able to play it? What about those with android or apple operating systems?
usability, functionality, aesthetics - Consider how you outcome functions and looks. Think about how your user will interact with your outcome.
What keys have you used that allows the player to interact with the game? Why not just use any old keys?
How have you laid out the menus or options available?
What are the implications of using different keys or symbols? How will this affect the functionality of your outcome?
Identify any relevant implications associated with your concept.
You will need to identify and describe the relevant implications that apply to your intended outcome, explaining how they apply and how you intend to overcome them.
