Mission 27 Resale www.mission27resale.org/

SVdP opened a resale store in October 2016. The store, Mission 27 Resale, is named in honor of St. Vincent de Paul’s ministry to the poor and his feast day, September 27. It is a volunteer organization dedicated to serving the poor and disadvantaged, Mission 27 Resale is much more than a secondhand shop. It’s a way to raise funds for two vital programs: the society’s food pantries and its Changing Lives Forever program, which teaches people how to lift themselves out of poverty. Good things for good purpose – it’s not just about giving new life to used items. It’s about giving a better life to those in need.

Volunteer opportunities at the Mission 27 Resale Store:

  • Store: Shifts are Monday–Saturday 9 am - noon, noon - 3 pm, and 3-6pm. Immediate needs - Wed-Sat afternoons.

  • Referral Desk: Client check in – basic computer skills needed (will train). Shifts are Monday-Saturday 10 am–1 pm and 1- 4pm. Immediate needs - Wednesday-Saturday afternoons.

Location: 1201 East Maryland Street

Changing Lives Forever

Instead of constantly just giving things to people, let’s continue to do our charity work, but let’s add value to that, and give folks a way to literally change their lives. Many of our efforts involve helping people with short term solutions to their needs instead of helping to eliminate their need. One way to provide long term help is a learning opportunity called Changing Lives Forever.

The program is a sixteen week class with twelve participants (Investigators). We hope to begin our third class soon. After the course, the “investigators” will be paired up with a mentor through the Indianapolis Trusted Mentor program for a year of additional advice and support.

We are in the process of recruiting “investigators” and hope to have 12 by the time the next program starts. If you know of anyone who might benefit from this program or if are interested in joining our core team, please call/text Paul Guenin at 317-627-2309,or padeceje2@aol.com.

We are in the process of developing a core team of people to assist in making meals for the classes, marketing the program, babysitting and recruiting mentors, etc. We also need sponsors in our community to financially support the program so that we can continue the work for years to come.

Do you have a willingness to help others, share skills, and knowledge? Do you have a positive attitude? Are you enthusiastic with strong Christian values? Can you provide constructive feedback and are you respectful? We are looking for people like you! We need Mentors for our next class of “investigators”. Please consider becoming a mentor. Additional information on mentoring is available at - http://trustedmentors.org

Poverty doesn’t only consist of being hungry for bread, but rather it is a tremendous hunger for human dignity.”----Mother Teresa
