Dear St. Albert the Great Families,
As you are aware, our American Heart Association “Kids Heart Challenge” kick off was Tuesday. The Kids Heart Challenge is held at schools across the country and focuses on whole body well-being, helping students improve their own health and raising life-saving donations for the American Heart Association to help kids with special hearts.
This program not only supports and encourages physical well-being, but mental health as well. Our K-3 students have just participated in lessons on conflict resolution with Ms. Loren and grades 4-8 have recently concluded their coping skills/stress management counseling lessons with Ms. Kane. Throughout the next few weeks, the students will continue to learn about the different ways to keep their heart healthy through both physical and mental health.
Researchers are reporting that stress early in life can contribute to heart disease into adulthood. The brain and body are still developing during childhood and adolescence, and stress can disrupt these processes. While we are aware of ways to promote good physical health: eating right, getting enough sleep, staying active, etc…we, as parents and educators, need to encourage good mental health such as decreasing stress and improving coping skills, encouraging self talk, teaching and practicing relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga and deep breathing to help calm the mind and body, and providing opportunities for social connection with loved ones who can provide comfort and support.
The CDC recommends the following tips for parents:
Maintain a normal and consistent routine
Talk, listen and encourage expression
Watch for changes in behavior
Work with school and other parents to develop ways for your child to connect and talk with others
The Kids Heart Challenge website provides practical and useful information for parents and children, and we strongly encourage you to explore it with your children.

The 2024-2025 St. Albert school calendar is ready!
The process of setting St. Albert’s school calendar starts with the Archdiocese giving us a “skeleton” calendar. From there, we sit down and start the puzzle of making sure we have the required amount of days and time of instruction while trying to meet the needs of our faculty, staff, and families.
The 2024-2025 school calendar has some changes be aware of:
Our early dismissal days (12:30) are moving to Wednesdays (unless they are before a holiday/spring break)
Our conferences will look different:
Tuesday, (October 8, and February 11) will be a full day of instruction. PTS conferences will be held from 3:00 - 8:00.
Wednesday (October 9, and February 12) will be a half day of instruction. PTS conferences will be held from 1:00 - 8:00.
We have built into the calendar a teacher work day after the Christmas break: No students
We have built into the calendar one snow day before moving to online learning.

We need your help! If you have a kindergarten or 8th-grade basketball player, we ask that you and your player come help set up the gym on Friday after the carpool. Also, please sign up to work a shift at the fish fry as well! There are lots of options. We also ask that your player help bus the tables during the fish fry. This is our largest fundraiser for athletics and we need many hands to make a lighter load for all. THANK YOU! GO VIKINGS!
