Welcome to Wellbeing Thursday.
This is a chance to try some elective activities and also have a focus on student wellbeing.
Each week, there will be some Art, Sport, Japanese, Music activities to try, as well as some activities like cooking!
We will provide some material that relates to wellbeing, using well regarded sources.
The first resource we will utilise is from The Resilience Project.
The Resilience Project, founded in Melbourne by Hugh VanCuylenburg, has done amazing things in schools. Not only schools, but elite athletes such as Dusty Martin recognise and use their principles to help improve their life. After reading Hugh's book over the January Holidays, we were looking to try and get them out to our school, until COVID hit.
During the first phase of home schooling, they provided content for families and students to focus on wellbeing at home. Now, through the support of Coles, they have opened this to all schools. We really encourage, at a time that suits your family, you explore some of the content together.
For the next three weeks, we will explore their guiding principles of Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We hope our students can get something out of it. The activities suit children from four through to secondary school. We think the these principles align very well with our Catholic Faith, and within the Mindfulness week, we will make connections with our faith.
We thank and acknowledge the Resilience Project for making this work available for all students. Here is their founder Hugh, explaining TRP@Home
The focus for this week is Gratitude: There is so much information and great activities below in the Gratitude section of the TRP@Home website.
Gratitude is being thakful for what you have. In our world, we are constantly sold a message about what we don't have. Advertising and Social Media are aimed at making us want something else. They are trying to get us to think we need it. Sure, everyone loves a present and something new and nice. It has to be limited though. What we really need is to focus on what we do have. Even the little things. In our Catholic faith, we call it giving thanks. We can pray to God to say a prayer of thanks. Often we ask for things, but today, we want to focus on what you do have.
During COVID, we have had many things taken away from us. We all have had moments where this has really got us down. Part of the solution- is gratitude. That doesn't mean it is wrong to feel down at times, it is normal. But how do we bounce back?
Focus on the little things.
The food you eat. The laughs you have. For me at the moment, it is every time my little boy Noah smiles. That is my DISMOMENT. Some footballers, such as Adam Trelor from Collingwood, occasionally have DIS written on the tape on their wrist, to remind them how fortunate they are. We all have things to be grateful for.
I'd love to hear your DISMOMENT. Watch the video below by the Resilience Project and also what some of our staff are grateful for. Have a think about it. If you feel comfortable sharing, please send me your DISMOMENT to psharp@stacbourne.catholic.edu.au
We'd love to hear from parents, teachers, family members and of course, our super students. It could be a short clip, a picture or just a short sentence like mine.
If we get enough sent through, we will add your DISMOMENT to our 'dismoment' video below. Only send in if you are comfortable with us sharing!
There are many more activities that explore Gratitude on the website below.
We encourage you to explore them.
They are matched to student year levels and involve video content and research pieces.
Once again, thanks to The Resilience Project for making these available.

Sport with Mr Mitchell
Fitness circuit
In today's circuit we will cover:
Sit Ups
Burpees
Squats
Leg Raises
You should try and do each circuit for 3 minutes, with 2 sets of 10 of each.
Be careful with your space, wear appropriate clothing and try to go steady, maintaining good posture.
A set is 10 repetitions, then a break.
Thanks to Mr Mitchell for these activities.
Music with Mr Browne
The Cup Song with Mr Browne
This lesson is the first of a three part series of lessons to learn the Cup Song, which featured in the movie Pitch Perfect.
Over the coming weeks, Mr Browne will take you through a three part lesson to lesson. At the end of the three part lesson, we will be asking students (and parents who have nailed it) to send us a copy if you wish. We will the share a few, with your permission of course, via our skoolbag platform. So no videos sharing yet, get practising. A quick tip to look after your parents wellbeing, place a little cloth towel while practising, it helps reduce the noise!
Learning tip: This is an explicit teaching lesson: It is not intended to be watched once and then attempt. Try watching once, then watch in small parts 20 second parts to learn each move. When practising, it is better to practice once a day for ten minutes over five days, than practice for 30 minutes in one go. This is called Spaced Practice and research will suggest a greater benefit! Short, precise and focused practice.
Thanks to Mr Browne for this lesson
ART with Mrs Tharle
Pom Pom Challenge
Mrs Tharle has got all creative with not only her Video Making this week, but also the lesson idea. For those with a creative flair, this lesson will teach you how to make a Pom Pom and then give you some ideas of how you can use them. Texta, paper (cardboard), wool and scissors are all you need.
This is also a great lesson to develop fine motor skills, which is an important skill for handwriting.
If you create a pom pom, send me through a photo of the finished product, but importantly, attach some of the process pictures. With art, it is important to see it as a process that develops is time and requires patience.
Send any finished pictures through to psharp@stacbourne.catholic.edu.au
Thanks to Mrs Tharle for these activities.
Japanese Letters with Miss Luong
Miss Luong was very excited to teach how to write the Japanese alphabet this term throughout the school. She decided to channel her focus into building her own website that will help this, at your own pace.
Click on the link to the left. Take a Hiragana (letter) each week and have a go at forming it. Miss Luong has even built in some quizzes, particularly for middle to upper classes. You will need to be signed into your Google account. I am going to try and do these lessons myself.
Hopefully I do well!
Thanks to Miss Luong for these activities.
Cooking With Mrs Nelson
If you see our staff walking out of the staff room with an extra special smile- we probably just had a Mrs Nelson treat!
Mrs Nelson is an incredible cook, but with these videos, she is going to share some simple recipes that you can try at home.
This recipe is for a Raspberry and White Chocolate Muffin
You will need: (An adult helper for the oven) A mixing bowl, a mixing spoon, an oven (180 degrees Celsius), Pouring Jug, Muffin Tray, Patty Cases
Ingredients: Self raising flour, Caster sugar, White chocolate chips, Milk, Pouring Cream, Butter, Vanilla Essence, Vegetable Oil, Egg, Frozen Raspberries.
These are our version of Coles "What's For Dinner". They do dinner, we do desert! We know you wont be able to do this on the Thursday as you may need to shop for ingredients. But we'd love to see you try it out during the week.
If you do make them, please take a photo and send them through to psharp@stacbourne.catholic.edu.au
There are great writing and mathematics opportunities here that we will discuss in future episodes.
Thanks to Mrs Nelson for these lessons.
