Jumping for Joy at Moormead

It is always nice to get a bit of fresh air while we are exercising and never more so than at the moment. We head off to Moormead for games, whatever the weather. Not only is it great to blow away the cobwebs, it is also a perfect venue for social distancing! Our PE coach, Aaron Downes, explains what's been happening on the Moormead pitches this half term, "PE and Games have been wonderful and we have had lots of fun down at Moormead. This term we have been working on athletics and cross country. The children have been fabulous and coping well with our new way of life, social distancing from each other and washing hands each time we get back to school. Their attitude to PE has been amazing and I have really enjoyed their enthusiasm since we've all been back in school."

BLACK HISTORY MONTH GETS HAIRY IN RECEPTION

As part of our work on Black History Month, Reception read two stories about hair - 'The Mega Magic Hair Swap' by Rochelle Humes and 'My Hair' by Hannah Lee, celebrating similarities and differences. The children then chose a new hairstyle for themselves. As you can see, they had lots of fun with wool! Reception teacher, Tracy Dale, said, "The girls in the story wanted each other’s hair. So they changed but realised they preferred themselves the way they were. We were celebrating differences and looking at similarities. The children chose their own new hairstyle - most wanted it to be rainbow coloured." We think they look wonderful, with or without their wool hair ...

The plastic debate with 4L

So many of us are wising up to the over use of plastic in our world. Opting for re-usable water bottles, glass milk bottles and eco-friendly refills, are just some of the ways we are trying to do our bit to negate the detrimental effects of plastic. It is an issue that Year Four has recently debated. Year Four teacher, Sophie Lyth, explains, "We debated 'should all products made with plastic be banned.' Sadly, there wasn't a winning side, as it’s such a difficult and emotive issue. The children could see the pros and cons of the use of plastic, but are worried about the effect it is having on our planet. Next, they are going to write to the company that provides our school milk to ask about its use of plastic straws and wrapping!"

We are looking forward to the company's reply. Our children are getting the message that they really can make strides to change our world, if they put their minds to it.
