Our Year Three children have been studying the Bible as part of their Christianity unit. Looking at the Old and New Testaments, thinking about what the worldwide best seller means to Christians and how it inspires and teaches them. Sherralyn Rainey, who has been teaching the young scholars, explains: "It is such a joy to teach these lessons, as the children are so thoughtful in their comments in our class discussions. I was lucky enough to teach half of these children RE last year too, and it is so lovely to see them growing in maturity and empathy, as we continue our learning journey. We have been looking not only at the history and importance of the Bible as the seminal Christian text, but also at its composition and how believers use it as a day-to-day guide." With this in mind, the children all learned a Bible quote which focussed on faith and performed it to their peers. "It is wonderful to get children up and encourage them to perform to the rest of the class. They were brilliant and, I am happy to report, one hundred per cent word perfect. Faith, for both Christians and other religions, is such an important concept and we have been looking at how this spiritual conviction affects the lives of believers," concludes Miss Rainey. Did you know the Bible is the world's best-selling book? It is estimated that, so far, around five billion copies have been sold.
