We are very proud of Year Six's Luca. During lockdown he embarked on an online French course. Such was his phenomenal progress that he achieved a Silver certificate and the course's organiser contacted Mrs Bachour to sing his praises. "I am very proud of Luca. His self motivation and commitment to learning during lockdown is so impressive. Well done Luca," enthused Mrs Bachour.
AfC Emotional Health resources has launched a Resource Hub which it hopes will help children, young people and their families with their emotional wellbeing. As waiting times for support are increasing, it has never been more important that a wider range of support is available for children and young people when they need it.
These online self-help resources include pre-recorded video workshops, helplines, online counselling and information leaflets.
The Resource Hub is set out under themes to help you understand which services and support is available or might be useful under different circumstances.

Year Two's Magpie class has been looking at Michaela De Prince, a black ballet dancer with vitaligo, a condition where patches of her skin loses its pigment. Overcoming huge adversity, after being orphaned in war torn Sierra Leone, Michaela was adopted by an American family. After moving to America, she held on to her hope of being a dancer, inspired by a magazine cover of a ballerina she found while in an orphanage back in Sierra Leone. She is proof that major disadvantages need not hold us back; we can all still follow our dreams. She says she defies gravity with her dance and used it to deal with her anger. Her story has prompted the Magpie children to create their own 'What makes me unique' doodle page. Our differences really do make us special.
We may be in the middle of a pandemic but the band is still playing on, as far as St Stephen's is concerned. In all areas of our curriculum, we are trying to keep things as normal as possible. Our Music Co-ordinator and Year Six teacher, James Munn, gives his update on all things musical at St Stephen's. "Music is in full swing here at St Stephen's. The Year One children are busy working with the Richmond Music Trust to complete their Music Makers Unit. Their Year Two colleagues are learning to play beautiful melodies on their recorders, while Year Three is also in the capable hands of RMT. They are learning string instruments and get a session on violins, violas and cellos each week (see photos below). Moving on to Year Four, the children are in good voice with weekly singing lessons. And finally, M:Tech has stepped in to guide our Year Five children through their musical technology unit." All in all, it's musical business as usual. Unfortunately, we cannot have our usual weekly singing assembly but we are keeping our children in tune with many musical options. Additionally, individual music lessons with RMT continue - (pictured below right), RMT piano teacher Yvonne Thomas puts Charlie through his musical paces in his weekly lesson. Psst ... they not only look lovely but they are tuneful too.
