Students in the San Ramon Valley are fortunate to have dedicated staff members who are incredibly committed to serving our students, families, and communities.

This spring, San Ramon Valley Unified School District honored our Teachers of the Year, Classified Employees of the Year, and ACSA Administrators of the Year as incredible leaders who are recognized for their outstanding contributions and commitments to creating learning environments that enable our students to succeed and thrive.

Superintendent Dr. John Malloy shared that he is so proud of our staff and appreciates the “dedication and commitment of these exemplary educators who reflect the expertise, service, generosity, commitment, and joy of serving our students.”

Teachers of the Year

For the 2023-24 school year, two educators have been named as Teachers of the Year: Ashley Fabro (Elementary) and Chris Connor (Secondary).

Ashley Fabro is a TK teacher at Golden View Elementary. For the last decade, Ms. Fabro has created a welcoming classroom where every child feels accepted and supported. She’s currently piloting the full inclusion program at Golden View and serves on many District committees for the expansion of Transitional Kindergarten. In addition to all her regular duties, she also gives her time to mentor teachers new to SRVUSD.

Chris Connor is the Drama and Leadership teacher at Monte Vista High School. Mr. Connor is committed to providing a safe and welcoming space for all MV students. He opens his classroom during lunch and spends evenings and weekends supporting school events. His selflessness and work ethic are appreciated by students and staff.

Classified Employees of the Year

On March 14, 2023, forty-two Classified employees were honored and recognized as their school or department’s 2023 Classified Employee of the Year. The list of honorees included SRVUSD custodians, instructional assistants, paraprofessionals, clerical and technical support staff, maintenance and groundskeepers, transportation workers, crossing guards, food service workers, campus security, and district office staff.

A reception was held at John Baldwin Elementary and was attended by many staff members from across the District, cheering their colleagues on as they were called up to the stage. Melanie Jones, Executive Director of Human Resources, and LaTonya Williams, Director of Classified Personnel, presented each honoree with a certificate recognizing the exemplary support these employees provide to the students and staff of SRVUSD.

During the ceremony, Shubhra Bhatnagar, a paraeducator with Coyote Creek’s Counseling Enriched Program, was named SRVUSD’s 2023 Classified Employee of the Year. Ms. Bhatnagar was recognized and appreciated not only for being an exemplary para, but also for the “extra” things she does for the Coyote Creek community: helping with the student newspaper, creating workflows that benefit staff efficiency, providing support for school celebrations, and so much more. Many Coyote Creek staff members sporting bumblebee headbands were in the audience to support “Ms. Bee'' as she received her award.

Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Awards

During the March Board of Education meeting, SRVUSD’s School Board recognized District administrators who were nominated for Administrators of the Year for Region 6, Diablo Valley Charter by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA). These leaders stand out for the pivotal role they play in creating a safe, equitable and inclusive learning environment for our students.

Nadine Rosenzweig, Executive Director of Elementary Education, and Margrette Wui, Assistant Principal at Quail Run were awarded top honors in their fields. SRVUSD Administrator Nominees who were also recognized included Becky Ingram, Principal at Diablo Vista Middle; Jenny Torres, Principal at Gale Ranch Middle; Joe Romagna, Principal at John Baldwin Elementary; Charlie Litten, Assistant Principal at San Ramon Valley High; Liz Pagano, Assistant Principal at Monte Vista High; Amy Capurro, Director of Special Education; Cindy Fischer, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent.

ACSA Region 6 represents School Administrators from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. ACSA serves educational leaders in the pursuit of equity and excellence to meet the diverse needs of all California students. One of ACSA's priorities is to ensure that school leaders are acknowledged for their excellence. Through their annual awards program, ACSA recognizes administrators for their achievements and their dedication to public education at both the regional and state levels, and SRVUSD is proud to have two educators moving forward as finalists this year.
