Throughout the time that I spend with your child, I will communicate with you through notes, telephone calls, email, newsletters, Class Dojo, Google Classroom, and parent conferences. I encourage you to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have at any point in time.

We will have a morning snack each day. Snacks must be healthy, easy, and quick to eat. Water bottles are allowed and are strongly encouraged. Please make sure they have a tight fitting lid and do not leak.
Follow directions the first time they are given. Be kind by being a good listener to teachers and classmates. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Raise your hand and wait your turn. Follow the "Golden Rule" - (Do to others as you would want them to do to you).
Class Dojo: Class Dojo is a fantastic tool/program to encourage working together, responsibility and trying our best. Students will be rewarded Dojos for displaying awesome behavior. You can check your child's Dojo progress at home and encourage and praise them for making good choices. If an issue arises in the classroom, I will message your via Dojo to inform you of your child' choices and what steps we took in the classroom to change their choices.
We will be using the Journey's Reading Series. This series focuses on target skills like phonics, high-frequency words, writing, grammar, spelling, fluency, and reading comprehension skills.
We will also be using a more phonics-based program caller Blast from Really Great Reading.
In the blast program, your child will study the relationship between letters and sounds. Blast Foundations is one of the effective and engaging programs that make up Really Great Reading's Phonics Suite™. The phonics instruction for students participating in these lessons will help them read with confidence and accuracy and will thereby increase their ability to comprehend more difficult materials. Blast Foundations lessons provide the intensive, targeted instruction and interactive practice that students need to master essential reading skills. Once students complete the lessons, they should be stronger readers. The result is that they are more motivated in academic classes and that their school performance improves.

The Great Body Shop is the resource we use for our monthly health lessons. We discuss topics such as safety and making healthy choices.
As technology advances and changes, we continue to see it impact education in new ways. In order to prepare today's student for the jobs of tomorrow, I incorporate technology in many of our activities. Some of the technology programs your child will take part in is:
Google Classroom- will be used during remote learning for assignments, resources and fun review activities.
iReady - a K–12 adaptive diagnostic program for reading and mathematics that pinpoints student needs down to the sub-skill level
Xtra Math - a program or app to increase speed and accuracy in math fluency with addition & subtraction
Brain Pop Jr. - is a group of educational websites with over 1,000 short animated movies for students
Mystery Science- is a website with fun, interactive science activities and experiments for students of all ages.
Celebrating a birthday in school is always fun for students. I strongly recommend sending in non-food birthday treats. If you do bring in food treats, please make sure they are store-bought or commercially packaged treats with a nutrition label. We have some students that have food allergies. Summer birthdays will be celebrated in June.
