Problem-Based Learning
This is a type of lesson model where students are given the problem BEFORE the instruction on the content. When students exhaust what they know in order to solve the problem, then instruction happens. This can be a useful structure since research suggests that students retain content better when given the opportunity to struggle with a task before the teacher demonstrates methods by which to find a solution. (Krall, p. 86)

Project-Based Learning
Similar to problem-based, but it ties the math learning to a real-world context to be solved using the desired math. These are often developed from local issues in the news or areas of interest that students have.
