This is a relatively affordable way to satisfy some of the outcomes, and is a great skill to have developed for makers to communicate their ideas. At the minimum a lesson on sketching is highly reccomended.
You will need access to a computer/chromebook for every student to do computer assisted drafting CAD.
PSSD has free and easy access to Sketchup accessed through the google workspace and it is reccomended as a beginner program.
Projects increase engagement. This may be a project they design and build in the real world with cardboard, wood, 3D printer or one they just leave as a digital picture.

This is an awesome free program and all you need is computer access for your students to enjoy it. No previous experience is required to teach this unit as there are excellent guided tutorials to take you and your students through learning the program. There are lots of options for a final project in the unit. You can link their designs to woodworking projects, cardboard models and 3D printing if your class has access. It also have applications for topics like floorplans and home design which are also in the PAA curriculum.

This assignment is great for teaching how to layout the parts of a project on materials so you could make it in real life. You could have this as a transition assignment from drafting to working in a woodshop or build the model out of cardboard or just stop and leave it as a drawing.

This assignment would work well for a school with 3D printers as the tutorial describes how you can print this drawing. You could also make a model of the castle out of cardboard or just leave it as a drawing.
This assignment provides students with a chance to prove their Mastery of this unit. Have them design something of interest to themselves (water park, ninja warrior obstacle course, equestrian course, dream home, mask, etc.), to solve a problem (cell phone charger/stand, mousetrap, egg transporter or protector), or as a class project as part of a larger group (model different rooms in the school, design a mini-golf course, etc.). You can decide to have them build it or just leave it as an idea in sketchup.
