SPRINGFIELD PLATTEVIEW COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2023-2024

NOV 2023

Dear Springfield Platteview Community,

The month of November has flown by, much like the first half of the school year! Several great traditions happen in the fall, which makes for a fast-paced and exciting time for many of us. We are feeling thankful for all of you and for all of the things we can participate in with you.

At the beginning of November, we spent time with many of you at the SPCS Veterans Day Ceremony at Platteview High School. A lot of hard work goes into this event, as many of you know. From the students and the teachers to our community members and many volunteers, the ceremony is a favorite among many and could not happen without you.

Later in the month, the Springfield Platteview Education Foundation held its annual auction fundraiser. Proceeds for this stunning event go straight back to the schools, students, and teachers! Please enjoy a few highlights from the event in the newsletter below. You can also check out the Foundation's Facebook page here for more pictures and a future announcement of funds received at the auction. Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity. So much hard work is shown through these two events!

Another thing that becomes evident during this time is how hard the teachers and students are working to achieve their school year goals. Please take a moment to thank a teacher and administrator today! We are thankful for their hard work and resilience!

Have you found that sometimes a classic character in a favorite book can express the exact words you are feeling but can't quite say it the same? Here's a quote that sums it up quite nicely. "Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude. —Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne.

Have a wonderful day and stay warm. Winter break is almost here!

With Appreciation,

Veterans Day Ceremony: Another Special and Memorable Event

Words cannot express how much we love hosting the incredible Veterans Day Ceremony we hold at Platteview High School each year. This year’s event was especially touching for many reasons. One being our special attendees and guests. Thank you for sharing this moment with us!

Thank you to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln President Ted Carter for being our esteemed guest speaker. The message resonated with the students and adults. Another thank you to Jimmy Weber. He wowed us all with his incredible voice and salute to our Vets!

*Pictured first is World War 2 Vet, Private First Class Leon Buttermore. It was an honor to have him in the audience. He received a standing ovation for his contributions to our country 🇺🇸.

A Generous Donation to Moving Veterans Forward

Proceeds from the Trojan Zone Veterans Day Shirt Day Sales are being awarded to Moving Veterans Forward, a local non-profit dedicated to helping homeless Veterans in Iowa and Nebraska to get placed in homes. Their main goal is to give these veterans the boost that they need to become self-sufficient. The Trojan Zone Management team (PHS student interns) will present a check for $2,500 to the founder, Ron Hernandez, on Dec. 7, 2023. Thank you for buying a shirt and giving back!

Thank You for Supporting the Education Foundation

The SPCS Education Foundation awards classroom grants throughout the school year. These grants are designed to supplement our programs or further enhance educational opportunities across the district. The annual auction helps fund a lot of our programming! SP Education Foundation Auction Fundraiser Highlights

One Teacher Grant example we shared at the Auction is a sensory path for students at Springfield Elementary. It was purchased generously by those who gave to the Education Foundation.

Many people work extremely hard to make this event happen each year to help raise funds for teacher grants and other grants to support SPCS teachers and students. Pictured are some of the volunteers!

The Hats Off (For You) Education Foundation Auction Fundraiser was held again at the Steppe Center in La Vista. The theme this year thanked the many people who contributed to the Foundation!

The live auction featured several items that were handmade with the help of students from Platteview High School. This tabletop was made with wood from the PHS Buza Dome flooring.
