SPRINGFIELD PLATTEVIEW COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2022-2023

January 2023

Brianna Swick, Media Assistant at Springfield Elementary School

👏 Announcing our SPCS Good Vibes Employee of the Month...(drumroll please)...

"Brianna is an amazing library paraprofessional. She is so knowledgeable about all the books in the library.  Students and staff can ask her for a topic or book and she knows exactly which book and where to find it!  She is friendly, kind to students and staff, and just an amazing support to our building."

Thank you to Cori Swanson for over 6 years of dedication to the SPCS Board of Education!

Cori Swanson, who served on the SPCS Board of Education for over 6 years, attended her last BOE meeting in December. Many important decisions and actions come from the school board, and Cori did a phenomenal job! Thank you for supporting our schools. Thank you for doing so much for our students and staff members. We appreciate you. We will miss you on the board, Cori. Many thanks for helping to make our schools great!

Construction at the new SPCS Administration Building is underway!

Construction of the old Springfield Elementary School, 765 Main Street, is happening now. The building will soon be the home of Springfield Platteview Community Schools' Administration Building. Demolition started on the original east side of the building. The west side has been gutted and is being prepared for renovations. Next up is an updated HVAC system, a new roof, and other interior finishings. The project is broken down into two phases of completion. Phase one will allow for several district offices to open starting around August 2023. Phase two, which will complete the project, is anticipated to be finished in early September 2023. Stay tuned for more!

Career Fair at Platteview High School on Feb. 16

In case you missed it...

Thank You for the Support, Anchor Partners

Because of a generous donation from Meta in late 2019, we purchased two digital scoreboards for Platteview High School. Through advertising on the boards, we can generate ongoing revenue for the school by having what we call Anchor Partners. These sponsors are featured digitally all year long! Thank you to Rock Medical Group, Sarpy Data Center, Google, Hy-Vee, Horizon Bank, and Metropolitan Community College (Nebraska). These businesses stepped up to the plate and agreed to sponsor PHS for two more years! Thank you AGAIN for supporting Springfield Platteview Community Schools!

We have many dedicated people in our school district! Thank you for being such a supportive community.

Trojan Send-off for the Dance Team was held at Platteview High School on Tuesday, January 31. Good luck at Nationals in Florida! Go Trojans!

Springfield Elementary School's annual food drive brought in over 2,796 items to donate to the local food pantry. Each house group contributed and the Student Council organized. Great teamwork, Tigers!

After 31 more game points, on January 27, Connor Millikan, senior at Platteview High School, surpassed Bob Siegel’s (Fairbury, 1973) all-time Class B scoring record with 2,362 points. What a great accomplishment! Congratulations!

Mrs. Bellairs, Discovery Teacher at Springfield Elementary and Westmont Elementary, hosted her first quiz bowl event at Springfield Elementary School with 15 teams and lots of spectators! One of the Westmont teams took 2nd place and a Springfield team ended up in 5th place.

Platteview Central science students have been hard at work learning about atoms and the periodic table of elements. They selected an element and spent several days researching its physical and chemical characteristics. They used personification to create their Element Superhero or Villain during Mrs. Clayton's annual Element Comic-Con on Tuesday, January 31st!
