SPRINGFIELD PLATTEVIEW COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2023-2024

AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2023

Dear Springfield Platteview Community,

We hope you and your families are enjoying the beginning of our 23-24 school year. With a quick start back to school, we find ourselves engrossed in many things! Homecoming came fast this year, and the timing allowed us to have home volleyball, football, and softball homecoming games. It certainly was an exciting (and busy) week! Our community did an incredible job. It's going to be a fun and competitive fall season for many.

Thank you for taking the time to read the following information. Here are a few things to draw your attention to...

Several construction projects are happening in our district. See the image below for a quick update on six areas that will see improvements or updates this year. Be sure to nominate outstanding staff members for SPCS Good Vibes Employee of the Month. Don't forget about Springfield Platteview Education Foundation's annual auction on Nov. 18. Registration is now open!

Last week you should have received an email from SPCS explaining in more detail how we plan to notify our community this year. Please let us know if you DID NOT receive an email from spcscomm@spcsne.org in your inbox.

Regular updates from the central office will be communicated through the following means:

We know you have likely been given a lot of information from your child's schools, so we wanted to reiterate a few of the important points listed above and below. The back-to-school transition is not just an adjustment period for our kids but for parents and staff. Please free to reach out if you need anything. Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement. We're happy to be a part of it all!

Best Regards & Go Trojans!

Each month, we ask community members and SPCS employees to nominate and recognize a Springfield Platteview staff member from any of our four schools and one administration building. The SPCS Good Vibes Employee of the Month allows us to show appreciation to those making a difference in many of our students' lives.

Springfield Platteview Community Schools aim to recruit, develop, and retain the highest quality staff members to join our school district. We hire individuals who are passionate about education and who care about the students. Take a moment to look at jobs and apply online. Classified and certified positions are open now.

The Springfield Platteview Education Foundation is hosting its annual auction fundraiser on November 18, 2023. The event will take place at the Steppe Center in La Vista, beginning with a cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m. Wear your favorite hat and dress to match it! Hats off to a community that supports our teachers and students!

Our school utilizes School Messenger to send text messages to your mobile phone with important information about events, school closings, safety alerts, and more. You can participate by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. You can also opt out of these messages at any time. Let us know if you have any questions.

The Platteview Booster Club is a non-profit organization that helps enrich athletics and activities at Platteview High School and Platteview Central. Your support is greatly appreciated by Platteview students and staff. Please take a moment to thank our most recent members. (All new members may not be listed yet, but will be soon!)

Watch D.O.G.S. help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying, and provide a greater sense of campus safety. We are excited to have Watch D.O.G.S. at our elementary schools.

Grow Sarpy and 20+ businesses delivered 1,230 construction kits to students in Sarpy County schools, including SPCS. "We know these practical skills will follow these students into adulthood and may lead some into a career. The kits include tape measures, safety glasses, gloves, tools, carpenter pencils, and more.

The Springfield Memorial Library is working on a five-year Strategic Plan.  As top priorities for the coming years, the library seeks to foster customer engagement, support educational opportunities, sustain economic development, and promote growth in our community.

Good nutrition fuels the brain! That’s why we provide our students with reasonably priced, nutritious meal choices at each of our school locations. Check out what we are serving at any of our schools. New breakfast and lunch menus can be found by clicking on the link below. Our school lunch program is run by Opaa! Food Management.

District Happenings - Current Projects

6 Current Projects Happening at SPCS

We are excited to share a few important project updates with you from around the district. It's going to be an outstanding year with several great things coming our way...

1. STRATEGIC PLANNING

Springfield Platteview Community Schools started official strategic planning in March 2023 with an outstanding group of teachers, directors, parents, administrators, and board members discussing strengths, opportunities, and threats for the next 3 to 5 years (and beyond). At the end of the two sessions, the group came up with goals for the future of our district. These goals were presented and approved by the board of education on April 10, 2023. The focus is on academics, growth, mental health, and safety. Teams were then assigned to work specifically on the action steps to accomplish our goals. Over the summer and into the fall, groups are working to refine the specifics for each goal. The groups will be ready to share the progress of plans with the Board of Education and the community in the coming months.

2. BUZA DOME

The old Buza Dome (old gym south of the building) at Platteview High School recently opened up as the new Strength Training and Conditioning classroom. The classroom will see over 300 students on any given day! The space will soon feature AV and other technology to help enhance the classroom experience. A $50,000 grant was awarded from Google to help with the technology additions to the space. Come and check it out!

3. PREVIOUS CENTRAL OFFICE LOCATION & NEW ATHLETIC AND WRESTLING BUILDING

The old Admin building, located in the parking lot just north of Platteview High School, is currently under construction. The building is being remodeled into a flexible space for extracurricular activities including wrestling, baseball, and golf. The space will also serve other activities as needed such as football, dance, cheer, soccer, or any activity needing a large indoor space. This project is projected to be done by the beginning of wrestling season, early November 2023.

4. & 5. SPCS ADMINISTRATION BUILDING (A.K.A. CENTRAL OFFICE)

The new District Administration Building is now located at 765 Main Street in the old Springfield Elementary building. Central Office staff moved into the west side of the building at the beginning of August. The east side of the building is still under construction and is anticipated to be done this November. The east side of the Administration Building will have a large community space, a board room, a small fitness area, conference rooms, two more offices, and a commons area. We will keep you posted as to when the projects are finalized and furnished.

The concrete for the parking lot facing the main street was poured last week. Boyd Jones is working daily on the changes to the east side of the building. It is anticipated that staff will be able to move into the east side by the end of this year. Not everything will be furnished in the community or gym space at this time, but we will communicate with the community as soon as the project is complete.

6. OAK LEAF

The Oak Leaf property is land near 72nd and Capehart Road in Papillion. This development is within the Springfield Platteview Community School district and we look forward to welcoming new families in that community to our district.  Phase 1 consists of approximately 450 lots, with a total of almost 700 lots when the subdivision is complete.  In preparation for the growth, the School Board has already secured approximately 14 acres of land in that subdivision for the future home of a third SPCS Elementary School.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Springfield Platteview Community Schools is to ensure that all students acquire the college and career-ready skills and behaviors necessary for each student to succeed now and into his/her future.
