Kindergarten students at Springfield Elementary School (all three kindergarten rooms) were given an amazing opportunity to care for eggs, hatch and raise baby chicks. It has been a wonderful experience for staff and students!

IN OTHER SPCS NEWS...

New Bookworm Vending Machine at Westmont

Congratulations to Mrs. Teather Roesler and Westmont Elementary School! They received a $4400 grant from the SPCS Education Foundation for The Bookworm Vending Machine! This initiative supports our kids as readers but also supports positive behaviors. When students demonstrate positive classroom behaviors, they will earn a token which then can be used to purchase and keep a book from the machine.

PHS Daktronics Class Goes Behind the Scenes at Husker Vision

Platteview High School students were able to experience behind the scenes at UNL. It was a great field trip for the Daktronics Class! to see Husker Vision and Hudl. They welcomed the group and gave insight into how the boards are run during Husker games. HuskerVision is the video production arm of the Nebraska Athletic Department, working with all 22 varsity sports and closely with the Big Ten Network. At PHS, our students use the same technology as they do at UNL.

Platteview Students Visit Cat Cafe

Students had a fabulous time at Felius Cat Cafe this morning. Even the "not-cat people" had fun playing with the cats and enjoyed some delicious drinks created by a very kind barista. The students had a terrific experience and some of them even walked away developing a new love for cats!

Administration Building & Other Important Projects

Construction for the new Administration Building (the old Springfield Elementary School) is on track for an August 2023 opening. Other projects underway include the renovation of the current central office, which will become a space for wrestling and other sports activities. The Buza-dome is also being transformed into a more interactive health and fitness classroom/weight training space. More information will be shared as these projects move forward.

Ace Hardware Helps Students Get Hands-On Work Experience

Students from SPCS have had the opportunity to work with ACE Hardware of Springfield to get hands-on experience in the working environment. The manager and store staff do a wonderful job welcoming the kids and having projects for the students to do while they are there.  Thank you to ACE Hardware for being such a great community partner!

Westmont 6th Graders Added Handprints to Tree Mural - a WES Tradition!

Sixth-grade students added their handprints and signatures to the mural in the stairwell at Westmont Elementary School. This tradition was started by Nicole Steenbock, Emilie Waits, and Catherine Dodd. What a wonderful tradition for sixth graders to leave their mark here at Westmont. Staff who are leaving are also invited to sign the tree truck!
