What You Need to Know About Therapy
Course Title: What You Need to Know About Therapy
Course Description: Want to learn about the range of treatments available for common mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and stressful life events? In this 1 hour and 30 minute class, Dr. G will give an overview of both psychology therapies (including psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, and behavioral perspectives) and pharmacological therapies (including commonly-prescribed anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, and mood stabilizing drugs). We will also discuss differences between therapists based on their background, degree, and training (including clergy members, clinical social workers, counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners) and how to find a therapist that’s the best “fit” for a person. Handouts and snacks will be provided.
