Managing Interpersonal Conflict: Achieve Positive Outcomes through Communication

Course Title: Managing Interpersonal Conflict: Achieve Positive Outcomes through Communication

Course Description: Conflict occurs when people believe that another person(s) is interfering with their interests and goals. Interpersonal interaction about a conflict can be productive or destructive depending on many factors, including the kinds of communication used. For example, when a conflict interaction begins with a critical statement, the conflict interaction is likely to escalate quickly, as it will when people use evaluative language rather than descriptive language. This class examines interpersonal conflict and the kinds of communication that can be used to more productively manage it when it occurs in our relationships.
