Historic Campus Walking Tour

Course Title: Historic Campus Walking Tour

Course Description: Southwestern University’s physical campus took over a century to develop. The original land and building donated to Southwestern is located four blocks to the west of the current campus and is part of the Georgetown Independent School District. At the time of Southwestern’s founding in 1873, much of the land now owned by the university was occupied by private residences and the Snyder ranch. The assembly of the current campus was a slow, piecemeal work, beginning with construction of the Ladies’ Annex in 1889.  This tour will give participants an idea of where some of the more notable buildings on the Southwestern campus stand, or stood. We will discuss the following locations: Bishop’s Memorial Union, Ladies’ Annex, Laura Kuykendall Hall, Cody Memorial Library, Mood-Bridwell Hall, Cullen Building, and Pirate Tavern.
