What I did
I have looked for materials that could fit into each part of my pages. For the hat I will be knitting a small hat and the color will be red. For the bird, I will be using feathers of different colors. I will also be using sand paper for the cave, mirrors for the coin, and corrugated cardboard for the chair. I have tried to look for materials that is easy to find, but correctly represents what I am explaining. To find out more about texture books, I went to the library and book stores to find some texture books. There were books that included sounds and smell, but it wasn't part of the book. These sounds came from a toy that comes with the book. I have talked with my mentor about smell, but if I add the smell, it will all be mixed since I will be using multiple scents, so I decided not to add it in my book.
What I learned
I found out that smell can also be included in a book. There is scent paper that I could add. However, these scent paper don't last long and since I will be using multiple scents, it will all be mixed inside my book. I also learned that there are many ways that I can replace the texture of everyday objects we see. Although it may not be exactly the same, the texture may be represented through other objects that may not be common for us. I also found out that when I feel these objects not knowing what it is, it is difficult to know what the object really is. This made me think of ways that I could use to correctly place the materials in the right position for the visually impaired children could know.
What I need to do next
I need to find these objects so that I could use them for my book. I will be visiting stores to find these materials. These objects should not be too fragile and it should last long so that it could be in my book. Not only materials that represent texture, but I need to find the correct paper that could be a part of the foundation of the book. I also need to find ways to keep these textures in place. The materials will not be stickers, so I need to find glue or other supplies.
