Reflection 10

I have finished making the book. I added all the textures to the book and added braille stickers. When I finished making all the pages, I visited the binding place and bound the book. I went to four binding places and two of them said they are not able to bind the book. The last place I visited tried binding the book and I liked how it turned out, so I bound the other book as well. After the book was completely finished, I visited the Seogwipo Braille Library to donate the book. I met with the person in charge of the facility and discussed about the current situation of the library and how braille books along with audio books are made. The library wanted to upload information of my book to their website, so after answering some questions, my book is to be uploaded in the Seogwipo Braille Library website.

I visited the Seogwipo Braille Library for the first time. In the library, I learned that there are not a lot of books in braille that are for children. Most of the books were audio books and there were not enough braille books since the machine used for printing braille is expensive. I also found out that one book is separated into two when it is written in braille. The reason behind this is that braille can be erased easily if the books are too thick and the papers give pressure to the braille written. I also found out that braille could be printed on both sides of the paper.

When I visited the library and talked with the librarian there, I realized that there is not much support for books in braille and the resources necessary for it. Even though there are people who want to volunteer in helping out of making books, there are not enough resources for these people to help out. I began to think that it is important for more people to acknowledge the situations these libraries are in.

As I have finished donating the book, now I need to find out how it helpful for the libraries when I donate these books. I learned a lot of new things when I visited the braille library and found out that it needs more attention from people. Since I know that there are places for the children who are visually impaired to go study, it needs to be shown more to the public. More people should acknowledge that there are these places that need help. Lots of people do not even know that these facilities exist, so it is important that these places are shown to the public that it needs help.
