As my final project, I have made a children's book. During my research I found out that disabled students lack the opportunities to study and it has worsen as COVID-19 has started. The reason for this is mainly because there are not much schools in Korea for all the disabled students and even worse, quarantine has taken away the opportunity for the students to go to school. To help these students, I came up with the idea of making a book. Even though students are not able to go to school, libraries are open and this is the best place to learn.
I tried to focus on one group of disabled students so that I could provide the best help. My focus was on the visually impaired students. Since these students are not able to see the words or the pictures, I added different textures for every picture and added braille so that it could enhance the understanding of the story. In order to do this, I had to research to find materials with different textures. This included clay, fur, and even buttons. Writing in braille was a new challenge for me because I have never learned to write or read braille. However, I was able to use the braille table to translate all the words into braille.
When I was finished with the book, I was able to donate the book to the library and receive feedback from a visually impaired adult. I wasn't able to get the feedbacks and the reactions from the children, but by donating the book to the library, more children are now able to access my book and learn through it.
Below is the video of my final product and my thoughts.
