Day 4: The Burger Guys, October 4, 2013

The farthest traveled stop so far! Today I went to the Burger Guys on Westheimer and Beltway 8. They also have another location downtown that is only open during lunch hours. The store wasn't too crowded for a Friday night around 7 PM, but a few people showed up as we were leaving. There was a long, semi-circle stainless steel counter that looked impressive, with a diner-ish feel (Although the backing was too high to see the kitchen area.) The paper towel dispensers at the booths were also automated.

Not to dwell on the burgers too much, but to give a brief assessment: Most cost $10 for just the burger, perhaps a bit too high. The had a wide variety of options. The taste good, portion size reasonable, but they were fairly greasy and messy to eat.

Another side note, I ordered a glass of water, drank the first with no issues. I refilled my cup, sat down, and noticed a tooth pick inside. I assume it fell in from the ice. Not a good sign at all.

Overall the atmosphere was definitely interesting, some good aspects and some bad.

Their ice cream menu is a little limiting: vanilla, chocolate, salted caramel, and caphe sua-da (Vietnamese iced coffee). Unfortunately they were out of salted caramel and chocolate. I ended up choosing the caphe sua-da, approximately 16 oz. costing $5.42. A little high for a milkshake.

(I am not a huge coffee fan, almost rarely drinking it. I never really order specialty coffee drinks be they hot, cold, or frozen. I do enjoy the occasional Kahlua flavored drink or beer with coffee flavored tones.)

The caphe sua-da milkshake had a nice coffee flavoring without being too overpowering. I would compare it to Kahlua, reminds you of coffee without actually being a strong coffee aftertaste. The milkshake was good consistency, thick but still easily drinkable through the straw. It was well mixed, although I saw one small chuck of unmixed, vanilla ice cream. There were also two small ice chunks mixed in.

The Burger Guys offers a limited, but unique selection of ice cream. It becomes even worse when they are out of certain flavors! Their milkshakes are good (burgers are average), but with many other quality shops available, it may be often overlooked.
