Day 3: Mooyah and Sonic

Surprise: Two stops on Thursday, October 3, 2013!

Mooyah Burgers and Fries:

For lunch I ventured to Mooyah. Mooyah is set up like 5 Guys, but it also offers milkshakes. Of course, I had to order one. I went with a small Reese's Milkshake. It costs about $3.00 for 12 oz.

It was fairly standard: milk, vanilla ice cream, and Reese's chunks. The vanilla ice cream was the lower quality and could have used a stronger vanilla flavor. The shake itself was a little on the thick side, making it difficult to drink through the straw. The pieces of Reese's were also fairly large, some too big to fit through a regular straw. So in reality it really wasn't a true milkshake. Eating it with a spoon, turned out to be good, and similar to a "Blizzard". At the end of the day, Mooyah offers an enjoyable shake if you want to subsidize your burger craving. If you want to drink it (although it will be thick!), stick with a more traditional flavor like vanilla, chocolate, banana, or strawberry.

Sonic Drive In:

And as a nightcap, I visited Sonic. We arrived a couple minutes after 11 PM and tried to order at a parking spot. When I pushed the button to order, I was sadly informed that only the drive thru was open. I ended up ordering a Reese's Sonic Blast. Yes another Reese's "Blizzard" variant! I ordered a small (14 oz.) and it was $2.99.

While waiting at the drive in window, I was able to watch the workers preparing the food. The ice cream dispensing from the soft serve machine looked unusually thin and runny. It put a slight damper on the experience.

Again, a higher quality and stronger vanilla taste would be appreciated. Compared to Mooyah, It offered more pieces of Reese's mixed in and sprinkled over the top. It was also topped with whipped cream, which made for a nice change of pace. Although the whipped cream wasn't exceptional by itself.

Sonic Drive In overs a wide variety of food besides their Blasts. In comparison to most other fast food stops it is definitely a good choice, although for a quality ice cream dish, you may want to venture somewhere else.

As the month rolls along, maybe I will make another surprise double feature.
