Doomsday Survey 1086

There does not appear to be any information on Winterbourne Steepleton but Terry Hearing (local Martinstown historian) notes in the Parish magazine of March 2016  that it's value was only 15 shillings. (20 shillings = £1) and it only had about 200 acres and the Saxon owner was Brictwin a thane / knight.

Winterbourne Steepleton was thus a very small hamlet in 1086 - with, it is presumed, the church being the main building.

It is interesting to compare the adjoining villages and their sizes and populations.
