Mae, Lorraine & Dolores
Dolores Katherine Laredo was born January 13, 1922 at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City Her father was Francis Laredo and her mother was Mary Collins.
"Lori", as she was known, was a born entrepreneur. She started several businesses in her lifetime. The Part Time Job Agency was a creation she developed to meet the needs of the marketplace eager for help and women who, like herself, did not want to "stay home".
In 1946 she married Bill Beecher, whom she met at her job at the Rockefeller Center information booth. Their first child, a son, Christopher William Beecher was born on August 20, 1948. At that time they were living in a loft on 58th street off Fifth Avenue. A year and a half later Dana Ward Beecher was born on February 1, 1950. It became clear they would need more living space since they both were intent on having a large family. Robert Gordon Beecher was born on June 6, 1951. Five years later, on April 20th, 1956 Karen Amy Beecher was born
Dolores and Bill lived at 53 East 82nd St. in New York City, a five story town house she bought with Bill. In 1967 she and Bill moved the family to Cornwall, Connecticut. In Connecticut she worked at WTOR, the AM station in Torrington, CT. LoriLine was a business she created to provide cost effective "book touring" for writers. She also started the Beecher Travel Service at the Yankee Peddler Inn in Torrington. Her experience in the Travel agency led her to start a company called Computer Travel Information, a precursor to the internet travel websites. Her idea was to provide access to real-time information to travelers going to any country in the world.
Lori was first diagnosed with a form of cancer called Carsinoid Syndrome in about 1968. Several years of surgery and alternative medicine therapies allowed her to survive 25 years. By 1992 the cancer had matasticized on several organs and she died May 6, 1993.
