Clarence Yale Beecher was the son of Benjamin Beecher and Huldah Foster Yale, born on April 27, 1843 in Connecticut. He had a brother who shared his father's and grandfather's name, Benjamin Beecher. Since this name spans three generations I will refer to the brother as Benjamin Jr., the father as Benjamin, and the grandfather as Captain Benjamin.
Clarence married Jesse Eunison. They had four children, Edward Eunison Beecher, Charlotte Beecher, Louisa G. Beecher and Clarence Yale Beecher Jr.
During the Civil War, Clarence signed up at 18 years of age and served with the 61st Regiment, New York Infantry. Organized in New York City on Oct. 25, 1861, he then left for Washington, D.C. Nov. 9, 1861. Attached to Howard's Brigade, Sumner's Division, Army of the Potomac. He was promoted to Lieutenant 1st Class on Aug. 14, 1864 (Company D, 16st Infantry). Then Promoted to Full Captain on Dec. 15, 1864, same Unit.
Back in civilian life Clarence was a policeman. His reputation was reportedly an 'assertive' style of policing. He lived at 316 18th.
Interestingly, Theodore Kuester lived with his family, and most importantly, his daughter, Mary (Clarence's future daughter-in-law) at 268 18th
Clarence died September 29, 1893
