Benjamin Beecher was born in 1807 to "Captain" Benjamin Beecher of New Haven, Connecticut and Wealtha Parmelee.
Benjamin was a businessman who, in 1840 bought the only express line between Boston and New York. According to his obituary in the New York Times in 1890, Benjamin Transported letters between the two cities and had to give up the business by the Government because he was competing with the Postal Service.
Benjamin married Huldah Foster Yale who was a decedent of Elihu Yale, founder of Yale University. They had two children Benjamin Beecher Jr. and Clarence Yale Beecher.
Benjamin died at the age of 83 from injuries suffered in a fall down the stairs of an elevated railroad in New York City in 1890.
