The SMART Response system, also called the Senteo system, is one of SMART's newer systems. The SMART Response system comes with a set of 30 devices that look like remote controls, allowing each student to have a "clicker" to participate in an activity.
The teacher can create a SMART Response activity directly in SMART Notebook, then run the activity during class. Students will "join" the room on their clicker, and can then respond to questions that the teacher projects on the SMART Board. The results will be displayed on the screen, so both students & teachers can see everyone's responses. As of right now, the clickers allow students to respond with a numerical answer, A-J for multiple choice questions, True/False, or Yes/No, but not short answers. Here are some examples of teacher-made questions that students would use the clickers to answer:
Student responses are anonymous except for the clicker number, so students do not need to feel self-conscious that their response is displayed for the class. However, if a teacher wants to keep track of which students are sending which responses, some ideas are to hand out the clickers alphabetically and compare with the attendance list, or to assign each student a numbered clicker for the year in order to keep track. Here is an example of what the class sees when the results are displayed. The results display in a pie graph to show what percentage of students chose which answer. This is GREAT for formative assessments, to see what percentage of students are "getting it" or not!
