Positive Behavior Reinforcement
Not sure what PBIS is.......Check it out!!
School-Wide PBIS:
- Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports is a decision framework that instructs expected outcomes from students in many different settings and then provides some reward for consistently making the right choices.
- Student behaviors must be collected from using data and having specific qualifications for reward events.
- Some events that I have seen have been a magician, michael jackson impersonator, pizza party, breakfast, movie and popcorn, tickets to a hockey game where the mascot came to the school, ice cream social.
- If students are excited about the reward and it is meaningful to them, many students who may have made inappropriate behavioral choices will think twice.
One School where it is working!!!
Check out this article about a school in Boston.
-Article discusses using data driven software to identify when problems are happening and then making interventions. It talks about how the student know the rules and enjoy the recognition of doing something correctly.
