Promoting early literacy skills is essential in a child's development. Students need to practice their reading skills often and in a variety of formats to grow into established readers. The Daily 5 is just one, of many, "program" ideas for educators to implement to support students in their growth.
The components of the Daily 5 consist of: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work and Teacher Time. When students have literacy practice in each of these areas, they are developing early literacy skills that will be essential in becoming successful readers. The CAFE model is commonly used together, with the Daily 5, as mini-lessons to aid students in their Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expansion of Vocabulary.
