Bullying has to be prevented and managed differently than it currently is in our schools. There must be outlined policies and procedures in place at all schools (regardless of size, location or the environment) so when school personal observes bullying they will know what to do. Without the proper help, guidance or counseling the stigma of being bullied can follow a person throughout life and effect life experiences (relationships, careers, friendships, personality development and or traits. "The bully" needs to know (through counseling, education and guidance) that what they are doing in the moment can have a negative effect on an individual for years. Recent cases of all types of bullying have resulted in criminal punishment, but the "bully" must be educated through the above mentioned resources or the behavior could continue.
This page will look at the effects that bullying can have on an individual. There will be articles, video testimonials and effects to look for that your child is suffering from being bullied. In some cases the embarrassment alone of being bullied is enough to keep someone quiet about what happened. They just want to blend in as not to draw attention to them in school. As you will read in the articles on this wiki, the effects of bullying on a person are overwhelming and sometimes lead to self inflicted death.
This is a informative article that is worth taking a look at (click on the link below). It provides information and stats on how the effects of bullying effect a person into adulthood. Two pieces of information that you will read about are: 1) "Being bullied could possibly elevate one's risk of psychiatric problems" and 2) "Victims of bullying in childhood were 4.3 times more likely to have anxiety disorders as adults compared to those with no history of bullying".(St. Louis, C. 2/13, Effects of Bullying last into Adulthood)

I feel that the poem below taken from the Stamp Out Bullying website conveys a powerful message. What do you think? What can be done in your academic environment or what is currently in place to prevent bullying from happening?
We feel all alone, small & weak
Scared to go out even to speak
The things they say, the things they do
Would you like it, if it were you?
These are fools we don’t understand
So let’s get together & fight our stand
Unite today & show we’re strong
For were the innocent, we’ve done no wrong

Everyone needs to stand together and unite for this important cause. No one should be made to feel like the first two lines from the above poem.
The following You Tube videos show how students feel after being bullied at school. The message is powerful, bullying hurts and has serious effects that do not disappear. The bullying must be stopped and they need to be held accountable for their actions. Social media has added a whole new aspect to bullying, now known as cyber bullying. It has opened the doors for bullying to occur via all social media outlets. In the past, students who were bullied at school could take refuge at home knowing they were free of bullying until they returned to school the next day. Since social media outlets have become so popular so has cyber bullying. With legislation in place many bullies have been held accountable for bullying in a court of law. I wonder in young students really understand that what they are doing is against the law. What type of education is being done in your schools to promote awareness about bullying?
As the story about the effects of cyber bullying is being narrated the author is also drawing the pictures. It is a neat method to put a story together about bullying. It shows how bullying takes place at school, carries over to online and the effects it has on the student. Great message and appropriate for any grade level. Bullying must be stopped. People must get involved and help educate how the harmful effects damage the lives of everyone involved(the victim, the victim's family and friends)
Click on the link below to look at some startling statistics about bullying. Some of these statistics will alarm you! I can't believe with all the education, information, laws in place, available resources and online websites that these numbers still report increased bullying behaviors and suicides. The article states that "77% of students are being bullied whether physically, mentally or verbally" (http://bullyingfacts.info/bullying-statistics/ ). That number should be much lower given all the recent anti-bullying awareness and state laws that have criminal penalties attached to them. A number of these cases have made national attention over the past few years and highlight bullying as a national problem in this country.
