The Big Idea:

Line – an element of design

Essential Question:

How can I use and appreciate line as an expressive, sensory element?

The Challenge:

Learning to be aware of and associate expressive qualities with different lines in my environment and artworks so I may increase my ability to use line expressively as a communicative element.

  • What are the expressive qualities of different kinds of line in artworks?
  • How will I associate expressive line qualities with different mark making techniques?
  • How will I produce different kinds of lines with marking making tools?
  • What qualities differentiate descriptive, implied, and expressive lines in art works?
