AP STUDIO ART
As a student in AP Studio Art, you will create a portfolio of college-level work, which will be submitted to the AP College Board for evaluation at the end of the school year. A qualifying portfolio score enables you to earn college credit and/or advanced placement. The AP Course offers three portfolios: Drawing, 2-D Design and 3-D Design. Each portfolio contains three required sections: Quality, Concentration and Breadth.
As a student in Ceramics, you will be introduces to sculptural ideas executed in various ceramic hand construction techniques including pinch, slab, coil, throwing on the potter’s wheel, and press mold. You will explore how the unique physical characteristics of clay can contribute to the content of the work. Construction strategies will be examined in a conceptual context. In addition, You will develop a variety of approaches to surface techniques including relief, drawing, printing, glazing, and slip painting. You are encouraged to follow Ceramics with Advanced Ceramics.
DESIGN MEDIA CONCEPTS
As a student in Design Media Concepts, you will explore the foundations of art as you are guided through an organized experimentation of traditional art media to create images that convey a message or concept. A variety of media is used, including: watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel , inks, dyes, collage, and digital media including film and photography. Creativity, Design, Intent, aesthetics, craftsmanship and originality will be assessed through the used of the elements and principles of design. Good composition, visual organization, development of creative thinking, and visual problem solving will be emphasized through studio projects, visual thinking and art criticism.
As a student in the Digital Photography course, you will become a skilled visual communicator using the latest digital imaging software. The course emphasizes the artistic potential of the photographic medium and many traditional and alternative photographic techniques. You will learn to utilize all aspects of your camera, compose great photographs and ultimately manipulate the digital images in preparation for publishing them to an online source. You will grow in creativity and inventiveness and build a solid technical competency.
As a student in Digital Video, you will be introduced to creating works of time-based media in the format of digital video, traditional animation, installation art and experimental video. Work will be done in aspects of film and video including directing, production, editing, sound design, cinematography, and storyboarding. You will learn to develop, shoot, and edit their own work using video equipment and computer software.
DRAWING AND PAINTING
As a student in the Drawing and Painting course, you will develop highly honed studio skills and come to understand the breadth of art in traditional, contemporary and experimental forms. You will explore aesthetic possibilities in abstract and representational areas and the use of traditional and non-traditional materials within a variety of subject matter including still life, interiors, landscape, cityscape, light, nature, and the portrait.
ILLUSTRATION & SEQUENTIAL ART
As a student in Illustration & Sequential Art, you will have the opportunity to work and create works of art to communicate entertaining and effective narratives through the use of words and pictures. The course will encompass formats such as graphic novels, comic books, comic strips, children’s books, caricature, and storyboards for film and animation. You will work with various traditional media including drawing, painting, and printmaking as well as digital media with programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator while developing a more personal and expressive style.
As a students in Advanced Ceramics, you will continue to develop and improve your hand building and wheel thrown construction techniques as you personalize the conceptual aspects of your work. We will focus your individual strengths through challenging design problems. Surface embellishment techniques of glazing, glaze formulation, and the firing process will be explored in depth.
ADVANCED DESIGN MEDIA CONCEPTS
As a student in Advanced Media Concepts, you will continue to utilize the elements and principals of design within an exploration into the professions of graphic, product, and industrial design. Through an organized experimentation of traditional art media you will create images that convey a message or concept. You will use a variety of traditional art media such as drawing, painting, printmaking and commercial art materials as well as digital equipment and computers to create 2-D and 3-D models. Good composition, visual organization, development of creative thinking and visual problem solving will be emphasized and developed throughout the course.
ADVANCED DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
As a student in the Advanced Digital Photography course, you will continue to build aesthetic judgment and develop and refine your personal vision as you explore photography and digital imaging techniques through a range of preferred subject matter. You are introduced to new artists and your efforts are concentrated on visual experimentation, conceptual sophistication, and imaginative solutions as you investigate all three aspects of the AP portfolio (Quality, Concentration, and Breadth).
ADVANCED DIGITAL VIDEO
As a student in Advanced Digital Video, you are apart of a select group of students who have performed well in the introductory Video/Film Course and have a real interest in television, video, film, or other communication professions. You will continue developing lab experiences through working independently or in groups to create special long-term projects that may vary from a few weeks to a month. This course will works with technical and aesthetic aspects of small format digital production and how its manipulation can express one’s individual message or purpose. You will apply the principles of art and technology in projects, such as short films, documentaries, and promotional videos.
