This is a short pre-Christmas update on the fibre broadband network proposed for the Wamboin, Bywong and Sutton Communities.

As you probably recall from our last email, following the announcement in January of the $5m grant, we have been looking to get some greater clarity from the NSW government on the timeframe for the start of construction of our network. Last week, representatives of the Wamboin Communications Action Group (WCAG) met with our local member, and Deputy Premier, John Barilaro MP, at his office in Sydney. The meeting included representatives from his Department as well as the team responsible for managing the project. Overall, the outcome of the meeting was very positive and, notwithstanding the delay in commencing construction, the WCAG representatives were comforted by the firm commitment given by Mr Barilaro in relation to building our network, as well as the funding allocated to support the project.

During the course of that meeting, we were advised that he would shortly be writing to residents of Wamboin, Bywong and Sutton to update them on the project. Today we received a copy of that letter and you will find this attached below. If you are in the WBSR area you should also receive this (by post) shortly.

The WCAG will continue to work through 2020 to represent the community’s aspirations for better broadband. Aside from our interactions with Government, we anticipate that this will include working closely with the commercial party(s) engaged by government to undertake the construction and/or operation of the network. More on this in due course.

In the meantime, enjoy the Christmas and New Year Break, take care if you’re traveling and please make sure you have those fire plans in place !
