The MOVE team landed in Venice! We are all settled in with members staying in Castello and Cannaregio. While arriving, team members have already experienced the Alilaguna (the water bus running from Marco Polo Airport to the historic city) and the train (traveling from Mestre adjacent to the Ponte della Liberta)
During our first few days we’ve gained first-hand experience with navigating the city and understanding difficulties associated with doing so, from barely fitting onto an ACTV vaporetto bus due to overcrowding, to getting lost in the winding streets, to walking through congested tourist areas.
Over the next few days, we have a meeting with our project liaison, Paolo Corposanto, and with one of our sponsors, the Vento di Venezia marina. With any luck, we should be able to obtain important information out of these meetings, including previous proposals for Venice’s infrastructure, the constraints on boat travel presented by Venice’s canal system, and techniques for estimating the number of commuters entering Venice.
