We’re just getting started with our project, the Future of Mobility in Venice, and it looks like it’s going to be a challenging project with the potential to make a substantial difference to the city. This past week, our group accomplished two tasks that were vital to the beginning of our project: we developed a list of deliverables, and we researched our two sponsors (besides the VPC), Reset Venezia and Vento di Venezia. By the end of this project, we hope to complete the following objectives:
Develop isochrones based on both the existing transportation infrastructure in Venice, and the transportation infrastructure with each proposed solution added separately.
Analyze the costs, benefits, and drawbacks of implementing each of the proposed solutions.
Recommend one of the proposed solutions for implementation in a report.
Achieving these objectives could be complicated somewhat by the fact that our two sponsors likely have somewhat different aims for this project. One of our sponsors, Reset Venezia, is a community advocacy organization while our other sponsor, Vento di Venezia (“Venice Wind”), is a marina with an economic incentive to support a boat-based solution. Navigating the interests of these two sponsors should be challenging but very much achievable.
