Week 4: UNESCO, the last few churches...and Thanksgiving!

Post date: Nov 19, 2012 11:21:3 AM

Finishing our fourth week here we visited our final 20 or so churches out of the original 144 we needed to visit this term. With the islands of Pellestrina, Mazzorbo, Burano, Torcello, and Sant'Erasmo left to visit, we planned for some long days upon the boats! Many days we began early, taking the long trip into consideration when planning our day. Often times, we did not return home before the sky turned dark. At the end of Wednesday when we finished our last church visit, we were relieved to finally be able to say that we saw them all! Returning home around 6pm after beginning the day at 9am, we were all beat!

Looking forward to a VPC Thanksgiving dinner the next night, we all began to plan our contribution to the vegetables of our meal. Meghan made delicious squash, Danielle created a wonderful green bean casserole from scratch, Jeff made an abundance of peas and carrots, and Kevin supplied the wine. Overall, the Thanksgiving dinner was a success! With two large and ultimately delicious turkeys and all the fixings, we couldn't have had a better meal abroad!

Earlier in the week, Danielle and Meghan met with a representative from the Venice office of UNESCO and gave short Ignite presentation to explain our project. Learning about how they do work around the city and how our project will affect them was quite helpful. We're excited to produce a list of damaged artifacts for them over the next few weeks and aid them in determining which of these artifacts need immediate attention.
