Week 3: Venipedia and more Chiese

By our third week in Venice we were a bit more settled in. Having used the ACTV boats as transportation for a couple weeks, we were pretty used to finding our way around the city. What we weren't used to was traveling to the islands of the Venetian lagoon. With 4 churches to visit on Lido, we took a day and traveled to the long island. Little did we know, the main mode of transportation on Lido is the bus! Our boat passes were valid for the bus system on Lido, so we got to travel by motor vehicle for the first time in a few weeks.

During our third week we visiting the churches in Cannaregio, San Marco, Castello, and Lido, adding at least another 50 to our list! On the evening of a particularly long day, our group made a pasta with meat sauce dinner together and watched a movie to enjoy a little group bonding. We overestimated the amount we each wanted to eat and ended up making almost twice as much pasta as we needed!

Throughout the week, we created models for our Venipedia pages. Since we had already visited Chiesa di San Giorgio Maggiore and gathered all of the pictures and information from that church, we used this church as our model. Using the templates created by the Venipedia team, we added information and images to this model page and created a few working links to an artifact page about one of the artifacts in the floor of that church. In addition, we created our Churches page about the churches of Venice with information from our background and linking to the individual church pages. The fourth model page we created was a descriptive floor artifacts page used to describe the types of church floor artifacts there are, how their damage has been assessed, etc.

Once we have all information ready to be uploaded to Venipedia, more than 2000 pages will be uploaded through City Knowledge and generated automatically. But first we need to decide on final models so that all of our pages look uniform and great!
