Week 2: Chiese and gelato everywhere!

Post date: Nov 19, 2012 10:39:56 AM

During our second week here in Venice we focused on visiting the churches in Santa Croce, San Polo and Dorsoduro...that is more than 50 in one week! With a few rainy and flooded days, we were limited as to when we could visit churches because taking pictures in the rain is rather difficult.

We came to realize that many churches are closed between 12pm and 2pm, and much of the information we seek is only available once you enter the church. Therefore, we made that 2-hour span our lunch time and, more often than not, sat down for a sandwich or pasta lunch. We tried many dishes such as gnocchi, lasagna with meat sauce, tortellini, proscuitto, all in Venetian style Italian food. The cuisine here is excellent and we ate out for lunch almost every day.

Who can forget about gelato?! Our group took a special liking to gelato, often times stopping mid-afternoon at Grom or one of the other local gelateria's! Jeff loves dark chocolate, Kevin loves fruity flavors, Meghan loves stracciatella and mint, and Danielle loves nocciola and nutella.
