ASRs,
Recently, I have received some questions about the process for promotion
after you graduate from school and you are reappointed to your respective
branches/rank (MC/CPT, DC/CPT or SP/1LT). Once you are reappointed, I highly
recommend you get your DA photo done. State's are looking at your DA Photo
as being part of your promotion packet.
The attached document references regulations on requirements for promotion
(i.e. Military Education requirements, MIN and MAX Time in Grade
requirements, etc.). Also, I have outlined the criteria of how some states
will evaluate you versus your peers. As you plan your future in the Army
National Guard, I hope this gives you a foundation to make decisions or at
least make a plan for the next 4 to 5 years. It should help you focus on
what you need to complete in order to promote.
Lastly, I recommend you reach out to your chain of command and the Senior
leadership (i.e. State Surgeon or State Dental Officer) within your state to
assist in providing mentorship on your career path. It is reasonable expect
some mentorship from your State's Senior Officers. You can gain a tremendous
amount of insight on how to be successful from your State's senior
leadership. So, be smart and ask for their help. Thank you!
V/R,
