Good morning, ASRs!
With the academic year coming to a close, it's time to receive an Academic
Evaluation Report (AER). I have contacted your State OSM or AMEDD Recruiter
and they are aware of this requirement. Please, send me a copy of your AER
after the form has been completed.
While you are in a Student Status you will receive an Academic Evaluation
Report (AER 1059-1) in lieu of an OER (Officer Evaluation Report). This is
mandatory. The purpose of this form is to ensure you are in good standing
with your school and the Army National Guard.
Please work with your state OSM or AMEDD Recruiter and institution to
complete this form. Upon completion of sections I and II, your AMEDD
recruiter or OSM will complete section III. Once the form is completely
filled out and signed by you, please email me a scanned copy.
Attached you will find a copy of the AER as well as instructions on how to
fill it out. The evaluation is to be filled out by either the dean,
department chairman, faculty advisor, or a responsible official of the
institution. Transcripts are only required upon graduation OR if you have
received a failing grade in a class. Again, work with your OSM or AMEDD
recruiters to get your evaluation completed. They might need some assistance
on getting a good point of contact at your institution.
Section I: School official is to fill out your information
Section II: To be completed by your school.
Section III: To be filled out by your State's AMEDD OSM or MEDCOM/MEDDET
Commander (If that is drilling unit)
If you have any questions regarding the AER and/or the process, please
contact me. Thank you and have a great weekend!

ALCON,
The past few weeks, I have been sending emails out into the field regarding
AERs (1059-1) and the AER process. It's important that OSMs/State AMEDD
recruiters and the ASRs work together in order to get the AERs completed. I
have received a few questions in regards to AERs.
As you know, the reason for the AER is to show that all ASRs are in good
standing with their schools and to make sure that they do not have any
unrated time as officers. While the AER will cover this academic year, all
previous years in the ASR Program need to be documented as well. Previous
unrated time as an officer can be filled with a Memorandum. It is also
important to note that like an OER, there needs to be set date every year the
AER needs to be completed to make sure there is not any unrated time for the
ASRs. i.e. 1JUL2009 thru 30JUN2010.
In Section one of the AER, I have had a few questions regarding the blocks 4,
5 and 8. The following blocks are to be filled out as follows:
Block 4/Branch: MS (medical or dental); MSC (PA)
Block 5/MOS: 00E67 (medical or dental); 70B (PA)
Block 7/Reference: AR 621-1/AR 623-23/DA PAM 623-23
Block 9/Duration: You should put the dates that coincide with your school's
academic year so you can be evaluated for the school year that you are about
to finish. Then, next year you will start where you left off on this AER.
Block 11/Evaluation: Your dean/administrator just needs to verify your
academic progress, when your projected graduation date is and ensure that you
are not failing any classes.
Section 3 is to be filled out by your state OSM/AMEDD Recruiter.
It is not necessary for everything to be typed. As always, I am available for
any questions you may have.
