Uniform Allowance:
As a newly commissioned officer, you are eligible for a one time $600 uniform allowance. To be quite honest with you, tracking down this money is a bit more difficult then it should be. If I were you, I would talk to the person writing your orders for the Officer Basic Leadership Course that you will be attending for training. He or she should be able to add the $600 to your temporary orders. For further information open the document entitled "uniform allowance" directly below.
Uniform Purchase and Wear:
The ARMY Combat Uniform (ACU)
Ask any of your fellow soldiers, and you'll soon find out that learning how to wear the uniform properly is an essential part of becoming a competent soldier. Luckily for you, the Army has made this easier as of late, uniforms no longer require starching, and most of the patches may be fastened with velcro instead of the traditional stitching. Moreover, the uniforms are not to be ironed, so wrinkles are, for lack of a better word, "in".
That said, you still need to ensure that your uniform is properly groomed. This means patches should be fastened tightly and in the correct place, loose strings should be cut or burned off, pockets should be closed and never over loaded, and berets should be shaved and fitted.
I have listed several uniform manufactures in the Useful websites section. That said, one of my recruits, Ron, found a great deal at U.S. Patriot Tactical. Choosing this option will save you a lot of time. The price is very competitive, and all you need to purchase, in addition to the set, is a beret and boots.
Attached, below, you will find a useful article about selecting boots. It has some good Ideas, however, do what the Rangers do, and purchase knee high nylons for periods of extended wear; mole skin and bandaids are inferior products for protecting your feet.
If you're really high speed, and want to learn more about the uniform, check out the ARMY uniform regulations.
The ARMY Dress Uniform
While at Officer Basic Leadership Course (OBLC) a respected prior enlisted, recommended purchasing Dress Blues at Marlow White. He said that their uniforms are of superior quality and reasonable price. If you have further questions about the dress uniform, please visit the Marlow White website, it has great information on the proper wear and history.
