Middle East Solution?
Is the following a godly way to view the Palestinian land dispute? or is there a higher principle I should be keeping in mind?
The international community once again it seems is pressuring Israel for an independent Palestinian State to be established inside Palestine.
But doesn't one already exist? It's called Jordan...
"Palestine" 1920
"Jordan" established inside "Palestine" 1922
More land given to the Arabs 1947
Israel's territory after the Six-Day War 1967
Israel, seeking peace, soon gave-back most of this territory, but instead of procuring peace with the Arabs, this only gave Israel's enemies a better vantage-point from which to attack them in the future.
Israel's Territory in Bible Times
Israel's territory in Bible times included:
all the territory to the west of the Jordan River
the Gaza strip
the West bank
Jerusalem
the Golan Heights
part of southern Lebanon
part of south-east Syria
substantial parts of western Jordan
more of the Sinai Peninsular towards Egypt
a little further south into the Arabian Peninsular (Saudi Arabia)
If Israel today was given back all this land:
the Arabs would still have three times more territory inside "Palestine" than the Jews
the Arabs would still have 75% of "Palestine" while the Jews would still have only 25%
the Arabs worldwide would still have 600 times more land than the Jews
Spot Israel's territory (green) compared to Arab territory (yellow) - need a magnifying glass?
,
Arabs worldwide outnumber the Jews by 50:1, yet many call Israel "expansionist", and the international community is pressuring Israel for the establishment of a Palestinian State.
But in reality, a large part of "Palestine" was already partitioned-off into an Arabic State in 1922 when "Jordan" was created - giving 75% of "Palestine" to the Arabs.
Neither "Jordan" nor "Palestine" existed as separate countries until Britain created these names. Prior to this, the Palestinian Arabs and the Jordanian Arabs were considered an identical people - identical ethnically, linguistically, religiously, historically and geographically - they even have the same flag:
Flag of Palestine
Flag of Jordan
Flag of Israel
God likes every distinct ethnic group to have self-determination in their own homeland behind defensible borders.
However, the borders need to be determined not on the basis of what is hoped may procure some elusive peace; nor on the basis of which side is most willing to compromise territory for the sake of peace - but the borders ought to be determined on the basis of what is RIGHT.
God's Word recognizes the lands and borders of Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and the Arabian. Iraq and Iran too are mentioned.
God, in His love for both Jew and Arab, has determined a RIGHT place for the Jews - and a RIGHT place for the Arab, and indeed a right place for every nation on the earth.
