Seeds Available From Wendy

posted Apr 12, 2013, 1:28 PM by Wanna Smith
From Wendy Weiner - Here are the lists of seeds I have if you want to participate in a pilot program of seed saving. Email me at wendy@thefrontyardfarmer.net if you want seeds to grow out and collect seeds. Transition Monmouth will be teaming up with Raices Cultural Center to make this fly - we are sharing. Raices was also a recipient of seeds from Hudson Valley Seed Library.

Its important to realize that some of these seeds can be saved this year by letting the fruit get over ripe, for some its waiting until next june like a rutabaga, or isolating a squash to insure no cross pollination. Some research may have to be done for some of these seeds. I can help direct you if you choose to participate. if you are saving seeds of a particular variety, you save the collect them from only strong, healthy plants in order that you pass on the traits of that plant to the next generation.

I realize that ...we are entering into this without all the definitive information but we are intelligent curious beings with the world at our finger tips and all this takes is some curiosity and a little dedication. And keep in mind, every
time you save seeds that you've grown, you are passing on the genetics of a plant that has adapted to your region of growing, its no longer just appropriate for zone 7, its perfect for your town in your dirt!

Thanks for your participation and interest. Nicole and I will be sharing info and updates throughout the season.
